Central transmission utility PowerGrid Corporation of India Ltd. said it would invest up to Rs.20,000 crore during the XI Five-Year Plan period, out of the total investment plan of Rs.55,000 crore, to provide transmission system for various projects, including four UMPPs of 4,000MW each as well as others to be commissioned, in the 12th plan period, media reports said.
S. Majumdar, Director (Projects), reportedly said the corporation plans to invest Rs.8,000 crore to Rs.9,000 crore in the Eleventh Plan and the rest will be spilled over to the 12th Plan (2012-17).
The investment would be funded through a mix of internal accruals and borrowings from multi-lateral agencies to realize its ambitious plans, the release said.
