Pre Market Commentary
Today,as we greet a new fiscal year following a stellar FY10, make sure you don’t get fooled. The main indices are set to open on a positive note. The initial gains may taper off as the day wears on as most players would prefer a ‘wait-and-watch’ stance ahead of earnings and RBI’s annual policy meet. Overall, the trend will remain insipid and sideways in a range. Auto and Cement stocks will be in focus as they release monthly as well as annual sales figures.
Most Asian markets are in the green, notwithstanding the overnight fall in US counterparts. Markets in Japan and China are up on encouraging economic data. Crude oil is trading above $83 per barrel, but the good news is that inflation back home has been showing some signs of cooling. Even trade data for February is pointing to a robust recovery. IIP for February is also likely to remain strong despite some softening in infrastructure sector growth.

TATA MOTORS: Our yesterday call trading strong, HOLD
Shares of Tata Motors ended higher by 2.2% at Rs756. The scrip opened at Rs746 it touched an intra-day high of Rs760 and a low of Rs742 and recorded volumes of over 0.73mn shares on BSE.
Tata Motors sells 20% stake in Telcon to its JV partner Hitachi for a sum of Rs11.6bn. (ET)
Tata Motors reduced its debt by Rs15bn as a large section of its bond holders opted for conversion of bonds into share before maturity. (ET)

Pre Market Commentary
Today,we expect a flat to slightly positive opening. On the whole, the trend will remain lackluster till the first batch of earnings start kicking in. Though the small-cap and mid-cap counters may remain abuzz one should resist the temptation of buying into illiquid, fundamentally weak stocks. Thursday heralds a new fiscal year. Having completed “year-end” commitments, it will be time to do proper due diligence of your portfolio.
A cooling was due for some time now. Once the key indices touched new 52-week highs it was only a matter of time. Interestingly, the market breadth, which had been negative for a few sessions, turned in favour of the bulls.
Looks like we could someday unravel the secret behind the way our planet earth was born following some success of the Large Hadron Collider. Some may have regrets for failing to perform in line with the indices, but, as far as markets are concerned, it’s not the time to experiment. In short, no ‘Big Bang’ movements are in the offing today going by the subdued mood in global markets.

FII inflows have held up pretty strong post the Union Budget. Monday was no exception. Local funds though have been a bit more cautious. Among the key concerns since Budget has been the tepid show put up by the broader market. The same was on display on Monday as well. This does stick out like a sore thumb and calls for some caution.

In a world of indices hitting new 52-week highs, individual stock prices are changing in a narrow range. In the immediate term, anything and everything can rattle the stock price; be it a downgrade, a change in weather or perhaps even a comment from Greece or Portugal. Focus on the company’s business instead and the broader environment.Markets in the US and Europe posted gains, with the Dow hitting a new 18-month high. NMDC trades below issue price of Rs 300
Shares of state-run NMDC has opened at Rs 297, a tad below its issue price of Rs 300 per share on listing day of its FPO shares. A share touched a low of Rs 283.10 in early trade on NSE, which was below discount price given to retail investors. The government has alloted shares to retail investors and employees at Rs 285, a 5% discount to issue price.
On the BSE, the share opened at Rs 295.70 and touched a high of Rs 296 & low of Rs 283.50.
The 33,22,43,200 equity shares issue was opened for subscription during March 10-12, 2010 at price band of Rs 300-350 and was subscribed just 1.25 times on the back of support from qualified institutional investors.
The government has mopped up less than Rs 10,000 crore through this issue, after considering dilution of 8.38% from government.
Punj Lloyd sells Pipavav stake for Rs 656 crore
Punj Lloyd has exited Pipavav Shipyard by selling its 19.43% stake to co-promoter SKIL Infrastructure for Rs 656 crore. The shares would be sold at Rs 50.75 each, which were bought at Rs 27 each for Rs 350 crore in September 2007.

Today the Nifty can cross 5310 and then test 5360-5370.If 5310 is crossed then buy with target of 5360-5370.If Nifty slips below 5310 then go short with target of 5255-5260.
