Pri Market Commentary ...

Today, we see a cautious to slightly positive opening due to mixed global cues and stable oil prices. At the same time be prepared to everyday to wake up to lot more global happenings which could impact us. We missed joining in the global rally. Relax, there is no point expecting some fast gains. A smart opening may be in the offing. Use the same to book some profit. We see the indices settling lower from their opening levels. Settlement for stocks bought on October 27 and October 28, 2008 will be done today.


Given the market conditions, do not go overboard at such signs. Fresh, sustained buying is needed to push the market further near earlier highs. we would continue to advise caution, as the trend will remain uncertain and the key indices will continue to be rangebound.

Happy Diwali and hope the festivities continue on the bourses. For the moment things look fine and there is no harm in rejoicing at the gains. You could in fact celebrate more if you book some gains. Given the strong sentiment on muhurat trading followed by the fireworks in global markets, we see a strong start to the day.


The F&O expiry today will provide the avoidable swings. Settlement for trades done on Stocks bought on October 27 and October 28, 2008 will be done on October 31, 2008. Keep your position light. Avoid any fresh buying for the day unless you want to pick up our recommended stocks for the long term. Thursday being a holiday, you never know how global markets shape up as we open on Friday morning.

It’s going to be a long, painful and rocky ride on the way up, whenever the market stabilizes. What's worse, every rally will see selling pressure, as fresh buying will elude the market. Earnings growth will be capped. Be very choosy and pick top quality companies that too only for long-term (2-3 years at least).

The outlook for today remains murky given the fragile global markets and unprecedented level of panic. One mildly positive factor is that the US stocks didn't fall as hard as the rest of the world did on Friday. Our Asian peers, however, haven't taken any solace from that, and are down sharply (barring the Nikkei). We also have the F&O expiry on Wednesday. There may be some bounce from lower levels today, but don't bet on a big rally as yet. Just trade for Mahurat.

Today, we are yet to hear morning birds chirping positive tunes. How we wish the festival of lights would bring some brightness to the economy and the market! Instead, cracks and crackers continue as we search for stability. October has lived up to its reputation of being one of the scariest months for stock markets. Every time the indices cracked one would have thought the bottom is here. Last week proved yet again that catching a falling knife is always fraught with a lot of danger.


As we set out for another weekly sojourn (which will be pretty short one due to Diwali holidays), many would still be inclined to think that it cannot get worse from here. After Friday's crash, it’s but natural that some kind of a rebound may happen. But, given the weakness across Asia, the bulls may well be disappointed. As much as we hate to say this, the bottom does not seem to be near. Stay light and gear up for the big fight.
