Taj GVK
Shares of Taj GVK rallied by over 9% to Rs92 on the back of huge volumes. The scrip touched an intra-day high of Rs96.9 and a low of Rs87 and recorded volumes of over 0.88m shares on BSE.
The stock has rallied by over 30% in the last three trading sessions. It had hit 52-week high of Rs115.8 on June 2, 2009 and 52-week low of Rs34.50 on December 4, 2008.
DLF
DLF sold its stake in its 50-50 joint venture with Ackruti City to a U.S.-based real estate fund for Rs2bn, stated reports.
The venture is developing 9mn square feet of office space at a northern Mumbai suburb. The sale is part of DLF' plan to raise Rs55bn through asset sale and reduce its Rs140bn debt by March 2010.
Shares of DLF ended lower by 2% to Rs278. The scrip touched an intra-day high of Rs288 and a low of Rs271 and recorded volumes of over 6.3mn shares on BSE.
Educomp
Shares of Educomp rallied by over 13% to Rs3902 after hitting an intra-day high of Rs3,984 and a low of Rs3,474 and recorded volumes of over 0.8mn shares on BSE.
IIP for May will also be out today and is expected to reveal further improvement.
We expect a flat to cautious start given the jitters over earnings, an erratic monsoon, mixed global cues and persistent selling by FIIs. Overall, the outlook remains murky, exacerbated by a disappointing budget. We will see alternate bouts of buying and selling. The next decisive move could take a while and hinges on incremental "good" news. Anything unique in Infosys or IIP will give bulls some solace for the day.

The worst recession in several decades is moderating but it would be too early to withdraw the slew of government measures aimed at lifting the global economy, says the IMF. Group of Eight (G8) leaders endorse the IMF view saying that the economic recovery is too fragile to consider the so-called ‘exit’ strategies. Meanwhile, a top Democratic lawmaker has questioned if Obama’s economic stimulus plan is working as intended.
One of the key concerns is that the worldwide efforts to bolster growth could revive inflation and harden interest rates. India is no exception. Some experts are even worried about stagflation following the additional stimulus unveiled in the budget; especially, if monsoon plays truant and global commodity prices soar again.

United States President Barack Obama says that India’s prosperity is good for America. His remarks come a day after the PM made a case for reforming the UN Security Council and asked the developed world to address systemic failures. These statements hold particular significance in light of the three-day G8 meeting starting today. Chinese President Hu Jintao won’t be going to Italy for the G8 meet as he battles ethnic tension in Xinjiang.
IIP will also be announced on the same day. Among the good news is that monsoon appears to be progressing well.

Market Commentary ...
Markets are rarely in agreement with the political class, especially when short term steroids are not articulated. Reforms for markets may mean something different than what they mean for the Government. The bottomline is this: don’t despair as the huge dollops of stimulus unleashed could actually stand India in good stead (in the longer term).
Authors of the budget defend the lack of announcements saying it is not necessary to include the same in the budget. So, there is still hope that disinvestment, PSU IPOs and other reforms may be announced in the coming quarters.
It remains to be seen whether the markets regain their composure after the Monday mayhem? Some sort of a comeback is a given after such a big selloff. The global picture is not too encouraging. One will also have to contend with corporate earnings. Be stock specific and stick to quality stuff. The FIIs’ stance, whether you like it or not, will play a major role too.
Looking at the heavy selling on Dalal Street post Budget presentation, the Nifty seems to be in an oversold position. Markets might stage a comeback on Tuesday provided firm cues from the global markets. However, one cannot rule out further selling.
