Suzlon Energy declined by 7% to Rs182. The company announced that the board of directors would meet on September 27, to consider the proposal to undertake a rights issue of its equity shares to an extent of Rs18bn. The scrip touched an intra-day high of Rs201 and a low of Rs181 and recorded volumes of over 48,00,000 shares on BSE.

Today,we expect the Indian market to remain choppy. Inflation for the week ended September 13th has remained unchanged at 12.14%, giving the RBI room to keep borrowings cost unchanged. Most global markets are depicting a rosy picture (barring Asian markets). A sustained rally is unlikely till there is a significant improvement in local and global factors. Much will depend on the US government's $700bn rescue plan for the financial sector and announcement of quarterly results.

FIIs Movement ..

FIIs were net sellers at Rs4.94bn (provisional) in the cash segment on Wednesday while the local institutions pumped in Rs1.7bn. In the F&O segment, the foreign funds were net sellers at Rs1.09bn. On Tuesday, FIIs were net sellers at Rs8.67bn in the cash segment. Mutual Funds too offloaded shares worth Rs2.26bn on the same day.

Pri Market Commentary ...

Today, we see a cautious to slightly positive opening due to mixed global cues and stable oil prices. The usual swings on F&O expiry would be see in the indices. The next big trigger for the Indian market will be the passing of the Indo-US nuclear deal, upcoming quarterly results and a possible easing of monetary policy. At the same time be prepared to everyday to wake up to lot more global happenings which could impact us.

Today, for the time being, traders should concentrate on the immediate events, i.e. F&O expiry and inflation numbers, which could have a bearing on the sentiments on Dalal Street. Today we expect the market to have a subdued opening. Wednesday’s range-bound movement indicates that the market is apprehensive over the near-term direction. Aggressive buying should be avoided for a while. The undertone is still bearish.

For, Nifty 4050 is major support.

Asian markets are trading mixed this morning

European markets didn't do well overnight and Asian markets are trading mixed this morning. While the Nikkei is down over 1% (it was shut on Tuesday), the Hang Seng is up over 1%. Meanwhile, crude oil is hovering around $107 per barrel.

Pri Market Commentary ...

Today, In India, the bulls may yet again get caught in the whirlwind of the constant news flow emerging from the global markets, especially the US. We expect a cautious start amid anxiety and uncertainty over the US situation. However, given the intensity of the fall on Tuesday, a bounce-back is always on the cards. To add to the volatility, the sun outage (and the protracted session) will commence from today. We also have to contend with the F&O expiry tomorrow., traders could get some reprieve after a key Senate Committee passed the Indo-US civilian nuclear deal with a landslide majority. Even, crude oil prices have slid in overnight trading.

Inflation numbers will be announced on Thursday and in the next couple of weeks the latest earnings announcements. Overall, the market is likely to remain choppy and will trade in a range of a few hundred points (NSE Nifty). We would advise investors to stick to basics and catch the falling stars for brighter times ahead.

Nifty could attempt a bounce back today.

Pri Market Commentary ..

Today,suddenly the mood seems to change in the market. Just when one thought oil was reaching realistic levels, overnight we see it surge past US$130 in intra-day trading. Investment banks Morgan Stanley and Goldman Sachs have now got converted into traditional bank holding companies. Looks like the euphoria over the Bush regime's mega rescue plan for Wall Street seems to fading fast. That was quite evident in Monday's trading in our markets, where the key indices closed marginally in the red.


What sent the US markets tanking last night? A revision in rules for short selling, say some reports. The new rules say those engaged in bona-fide market making and hedging activity, including in derivative contracts, could continue to short.


This clears shows that the market is still pretty jittery and the rally on the previous two days was driven more by short-covering and the news flow from the US.

Asian markets this morning ...

Asian markets this morning (barring Shanghai which is up for different reasons), have given a muted response to Washington's humungous bailout package. In fact, the Hang Seng even dipped into the red briefly, and was last trading flat. Among the other regional stock benchmarks, the Kospi was only marginally up, while the Straits Times was down slightly. The Nikkei and the Shanghai Composite are the only two markets up sharply. The latter is continuing last week's rebound after the Chinese government announced a slew of steps to shore up sentiment in the local stock market.
