Today, we expect the volatility to continue in the near term and every rise should be use as an opportunity to exit from the weak counters.Just when one thought the market would be supported by the Fed’s policy to lend treasury securities and the much anticipated 50-75bps cut, one bad event spoiled the party for Indian equities. The market continued to lose ground on poor IIP numbers and breached January lows, which is an extremely weak sign on the charts.

Today, we expect a strong gap-up opening, on the back of rally across global markets, led by Wall Street. Most of the Asian markets are trading higher after the Fed said it will pour as much as $200bn into the financial system to revive lending among banks. The undertone for the morning remains upbeat, but we do not rule out some cooling given the nervousness in the investors’ confidence following the recent sharp fall. However, for a change, the sun outage season, known for providing
lackluster movement can see some much needed sunshine for the bulls.

Today, as the mixed trend in global markets, we may have a subdued opening. However, the recovery during Monday’s trade may just keep the mood upbeat on the bourses. Interestingly, Monday’s swift recovery was more broad-based. The big question on everybody's mind is whether the key indices have reversed and can the bulls get back into momentum? Investors are now keeping a close eye on the Fed meet on March 18 when another aggressive rate cut is expected to rescue the markets.

Pri-Market Commentary!

After suffering the biggest weekly fall in about two years the key indices could have to bear some more pain today. Rising inflation rate could again prove to be a cause of worry for the market players. US indices on Friday closed at their lowest levels since 2006 following weak February employment report. The government also revised downward jobs gain of the past two months.

The next big trigger is the March 18 meeting of the Federal Reserve. One factor that may help the bulls is the provisional positive FII figures. Foreign funds were net buyers of Rs513cr in the cash segment on Friday, when the Sensex was down by over 3%. Still, one should not get fooled by any rally, as the bias remains largely negative.
