TATA STEEL : Hold it looking good on charts....
Pre Market Commentary ..
Today, we expect a flat to slightly positive start. Revision in guidance, if any from Infosys would be the key. The market is expected to be volatile in the short term as it awaits more signs of improvement on the economic front, both here as well as overseas.Though equities in the US and European markets advanced on Alcoa results, Asian markets are mixed. The earnings season is underway and the Alcoa numbers seem to have bolstered the sentiment, and heightened the expectations. Markets around the world still have to deal with a lot of earnings. They are looking for further evidence of recovery and what better source to get it than earnings. There are bound to be some disappointments just as there will be positive surprises. Take each day as it comes and don’t jump the gun and end up making a wrong move.
Infosys has come out with its Q2 FY10 financial results. The IT bellwether has reported a net profit of Rs15.4bn as against Rs15.27bn in the quarter ended June 30. The revenue for the reporting quarter is Rs55.85bn versus Rs54.72bn in the previous quarter. Operating profit margin for the second quarter stood at 34.6 compared to 34.1% in the April-June quarter.

While the market will open higher, the overall mood will be determined by the trend in global markets. Most players are keenly awaiting the latest batch of quarterly numbers to take a broader call. Since valuations are not cheap, exercise some restraint. Even if earnings season turns out to be a strong one, spend some time weighing the risk-reward ratio. IT stocks which saw some sell-off will look for cues from Infosys tomorrow.
Expect volatility with a positive bias.

Pre Market Commentary ...
Today, after the Monday Mayhem, we witnessed a classic Tuesday Turnaround. The rebound was largely led by short covering and buying in defensives like FMCG shares. Derivative indicators show that 4900 will remain a key short-term support. So what’s up on Wednesday? We expect to see a firm start as most world markets are up smartly. Commodities have too resumed their northbound journey while the dollar is getting pummeled.
Trading screens have turned green again after the recent retreat that had seen indices pull back from multi-month highs. In the near-term, the Indian market will swing to the beats of the global cues and earnings. Overall trend appears positive though volatility will remain elevated. Australia has already blinked by raising rates.
The RBI chief too has been talking of an exit from the accommodative monetary stance. Watch out for the mid-term policy review. Inflation will continue to have a bearing on equities and interest rates are also set to harden. Quite a few have lately cautioned on the sharp run-up in stocks and even commodities, citing a fragile recovery in the advanced economies.

Pre Market Commentary ..
The underlying trend in the market is still positive despite some reversal in the last few sessions. The sentiment could be hurt by less than spectacular results and economic data. That is particularly the case after the kind of rally we have enjoyed over the past six and a half months. Other big event to watch will be the RBI’s half-yearly policy review. It is most likely to set the tone for the central bank’s moves on interest rates going ahead.

Pre Market Commentary ...
Today, we expect a soft opening due to weak global cues. US stocks fell last week owing to disappointing economic reports, particularly on the jobs front. The big catalyst in the near term will be the quarterly earnings, both here and overseas. Monday morning blues are back. Just when one thought the monsoon was over, comes the bolt from the blue. Unexpected stormy weather has been wrecking havoc in South and West India. Although the torrential rains have brought some relief from searing heat, the timing is unwarranted. This is not good news in a year when the overall farm output is likely to take a hit and food inflation is already pretty high. It will be interesting to see what stand the Government and the RBI take to tackle spiraling prices.
What most players are looking for is whether the results will justify the market euphoria. We are inclined to believe there would be more positive surprises. Brace for a rollercoaster ride after a six-and-a-month rally.
