Today, we expect a strong opening due to firm global markets. And, though inflation could rise further, the market may ignore the same. In short, the storm may have passed, and one may start harbouring hopes for better days ahead. Technically too, the charts are showing positive signs as the Nifty has surpassed the 200 DMA and remains above that.

A major downside from this level may not happen, at least in the immediate future, unless there is some fresh bad news. Some market analysts see the Nifty gaining another 200 points, before the bulls face fresh resistance. Signs from the F&O segment are also not bad.

Pri-Market Commentary!

Today,we expect the market to open flat to slightly up. Things may turn lackluster and choppy later on. The overall the mood is much brighter on the street and odds of a major downside are pretty slim. Still, one needs to be a little careful as there may be some cooling from higher levels.

Today, the Fed will announce its policy on interest rates and provide some clues on the outlook for the US economy. Wall Street expects a 25 bps cut in the fed funds rate. Some experts also see the Fed signaling status quo for some time after today's decision. There is also a slim chance of no revision in rates. The Bank of Japan is also likely to keep its key rate unchanged today.

The Straits Times in Singapore dropped 26 points or 0.8% at 3175 while the Shanghai Composite in China rose 46 points or 1.3% to 3521 and the Taiex in Taiwan was down 50 points or 0.6% at 9029.

Today, we expect a cautious start and a lackluster trading till noon, when the RBI will announce its monetary policy for the year 2008-09. Select stock centric action will continue based on the results and other company specific announcements.

The market appears to have factored in most bad news, both local as well as global. As a result, the bulls may remain in command in the near term, especially if global markets too hold their nerve. Some more grim developments lurking somewhere could spark renewed sell-off.

Pri-Market Commentary!

Today, technically and even sentimentally speaking, the bulls are on a roll, with the key indices posting strong gains in the past couple of weeks. The market has recovered smartly on the back of a firm global trend. The bulls have chosen to overlook the CRR hike, rising inflation, mixed corporate results and soaring oil prices.

The RBI will announce its annual monetary policy tomorrow, and there is a fair chance of the central bank maintaining its hawkish stance. Inflation rose further to 7.33% for the week ended April 12 versus 7.14% in the previous week. Experts are divided whether the RBI will go for a 25 bps increase in short-term rates. The market could get a jolt if it does announce a small rate hike. On the other hand, a status quo may prove to be a shot in the arm for the bulls.
