Pre Market Commentary ..

There is no great feeling in the market as we stare at another soft opening. The global markets appear inconclusive. US stock benchmarks posted moderate gains while Europe was subdued. Asian markets are trading mixed. Looks like investors are on a ‘wait-n-watch’ mode and appear to be reluctant in taking major bets immediately. The Nifty is expected to remain stuck in the 5100-5150 range and the next hurdle is near the 5200. Fresh selling could take it as low as 5030-5050.

Inflation numbers showed a spike in fuel price. A possible trigger later in the day would be the IIP numbers.

Meanwhile, India Inc’s global conquest continues unabated – yet another sign of revived confidence following the financial turbulence. The economy is in good shape, if not great. The Government is aiming for the top slot in a few years. This may sound a little ambitious but not unachievable. Much will depend on how the policy landscape unfolds besides of course the state of the world economy. Among the other major headwinds include inflation and its implication on monetary policy.

Pre Market Commentary ..

The Indian equity market appears set to establish its hold. For all those who wake up trying to track how the Nifty is performing on the Singapore Exchange, there will probably be another breed of investors who will now stay awake to watch the Dow and S&P500 being traded on our exchange.

Meanwhile, stocks appear to have settled into yet another consolidation phase with no substantial newsflow to trigger direction. Traded volumes have been a bit disappointing even as flows from FIIs have improved. The post Budget feel-good factor which actually co-incided with global optimism seems to have ebbed slightly. For lack of other things, fourth quarter results, RBI’s annual policy meeting and monsoon could provide fresh direction going ahead.

Today we expect flat to a slightly higher start. US indices have gained overnight. European stocks too advanced while Asian markets are mostly in the green zone. On the technical front, 5150 is proving to be a tough resistance for the NSE Nifty. On the down side, strong support is expected at 5,000.

FIIs were net buyers in the cash segment on Wednesday at Rs3.64bn on a provisional basis. Local funds were net sellers of Rs3.75bn, according to figures published on the NSE's web site. In the F&O segment, the foreign funds were net buyers of Rs1.55bn. On Tuesday, FIIs were net buyers of Rs17.7bn in the cash segment.

Pre Market Commentary ...

It's been a year since the market has bid farewell it its lows. Meanwhile, the Sensex has galloped by over 100% in a year; albeit with a couple of corrections. The story ahead doesn't appear as promising as yet. For the day, we don’t expect any broad movement as the sentiment has softened a bit. Global markets are also insipid to say the least. Given this backdrop, we expect a flat to slightly positive start and another anemic session. Select stock specific action may of course continue to hog limelight.

Technically, the NSE Nifty faces resistance at 5200 while support is likely to kick in at 5000. A break beyond this range is not expected anytime soon. Much will hinge on global cues and fund flows; also don’t forget local data points like IIP and inflation, which will be announced shortly.

Meanwhile, in Parliament, it has taken 14 long years for India to pass the Women’s Reservation Bill in Rajya Sabha. Even that was not easy as the Yadav troika put up stiff resistance. What’s more, the Bill is yet to be cleared by the Lok Sabha. The UPA seems to have lost the support of the SP and RJD. Hopefully, time will be the best healer by the time the Finance Bill comes for clearance later in Parliament.!"

Pre Market Commentary ...

Like in the stock market, the favourites don’t always win the races. Record breaking sci-fi flick Avatar lost out to The Hurt Locker at the Academy Awards, which was a low-grosser. In another first, a woman won the Best Director Oscar, which coincided with the Women’s Day. In contrast, the long-pending Woman’s Reservation Bill received another setback back home as the famous Yadavs resorted to vandalism in Parliament.

Coming to the market, today we expect ‘The Weary Kind’ at start as it is expected to be subdued due to indecisive global cues. Most Asian shares are flat this morning after a mixed performance overnight on Wall Street. European stocks too finished nearly unchanged. We see the key indices being on ‘The Blind Side’ and listless today amid lack of fresh catalysts. Stock centric action will persist though with some stocks seeing ‘Up’ movement. Small-cap and Mid-cap shares might continue to remain ‘The New Tenants’ on street but do your due diligence before putting you ‘Precious’ money into this space.

Pre Market Commentary ..

A bright Monday morning is in the offing as the bulls seem to be in a mood to trespass 5100 comfortably and not be prosecuted. Friday’s smart gains in the US following an encouraging jobs report and higher Asian markets will do the needful as far as opening gains are concerned. European stock benchmarks have also posted healthy gains.

Remaining comfortable above 5100 remains a challenge; but given the momentum in recent times flirting with 5200 seems on the cards shortly. On the downside, 5000 remains a good short-term support.

Overall sentiment has improved slightly post the better than expected Budget. However, in the near term, the market could face some resistance at higher levels. Valuations are not cheap and uncertainties persist on the external front.

On the macro front, things are shaping up well, but much will hinge on how the monsoon unfolds. Concerns over inflation and its fallout on the monetary policy will continue to play on investors’ minds.

Among the factors that could add to the positive sentiment today is the announcement that SEBI has decided, in principle to allow the Stock Exchanges to introduce physical settlement of equity derivatives. However, it has not set any specific timeline for launching the same. The capital market regulator also permitted the Stock Exchanges to introduce equity derivatives contracts with tenures up to 5 years, besides allowing them to introduce derivative contracts on volatility indexes with a suitable track record.

Buy DLF for target 335 plus

DLF (BUY, CMP Rs317, Target Rs335): DLF is pointing to continued strength in the weeks to come as it has broken a downward-sloping trend line since January 2010. A detailed study of the daily chart shows that the stock has corrected from the high of Rs392 in January 2010 to touch a low of Rs282 last week. On Friday, the stock staged a smart breakout past the downward sloping trendline. This bullish breakout signals the end of the intermediate downtrend. The other supportive technical oscillators are positive and the upmove may extend to the levels of Rs338 and Rs345. We recommend high risk traders to buy the stock in the range between Rs315-319 for a target of Rs335 with stop loss of Rs309.

FIIs were net buyers in the cash segment on Friday at Rs9.13bn on a provisional basis while the local funds were net sellers of Rs6.61bn, according to figures published on the NSE's web site. In the F&O segment, the foreign funds were net buyers of Rs1.58bn. On Wednesday, FIIs were net buyers of Rs6.92bn in the cash segment. Mutual Funds were net sellers at Rs3.51bn on the same day.
