Pri Market Commentary ...

Today,we expect a weak day with the US market falling sharply overnight and most Asian markets trading lower this morning. Some more correction is not ruled out, as traders will lock in gains after the recent rise. Plus, the mood is likely to remain bearish after RIL’s Q1 numbers disappointed with an underperformance in its refining operations.Meanwhile, inflation has remained more or less stable in the second week of July at 11.89%, though it still remains at a 13-year peak. The other worrying aspect is that interest rates could inch higher as the RBI may announce further tightening next week.

Today, we expect a spillover of the recent positive momentum. Key indices have been on a rise over the past 5 sessions, with the Sensex notching up gains of 2,300 points. So, one needs to be cautious, as profit booking is not ruled out at higher levels. Lack of monsoon in western and southern parts of India could affect crop output, resulting in price increases.

Inflation will be announced today. If inflation rises sharply and there are any negative surprises on the earnings front, the market could pare initial gains. Index heavyweight RIL will also announce its quarterly numbers today.The current run-up looks more a bear-market rally rather than beginning of a fresh upturn. Hence, one must remain guarded at all times.

Today,we expect the momentum to continue for the day after the Congress-led coalition came out triumphant in the parliament. With crude oil prices falling below US$130/bbl mark overnight, the bulls will look to extend the euphoric phase of the last few days. With the political uncertainty out of the way, the focus of the Government will now shift towards inflation control and other macro-economic issues.

The bulls are likely to gain in confidence, now that the confidence motion has been won by the UPA, that too with an unexpectedly wide margin. And, we are saying this despite the four-day rally, which has seen the Sensex gain 1500 points. To add to the delight and elation of the bulls (and the Government), global cues are quite encouraging.As a result, we expect a gap-up opening, and another solid day for the bulls.

UPA wins trust vote : Dr.Singh is KING! ..Good News for Market

Dr.Singh is KING!, yeh Sounds good, Market will welcome this move...


Dr.Manmohan Singh government has won the trust vote. In this trust vote, 487 members voted. 253 members voted for the government and 232 voted against the governement.

It was capital chaos in the Parliament today as bribery charges took centrestage earlier in the day. As the trust vote debate was underway in the Lok Sabha at around 4 pm, 3 BJP MPs dramatically rushed to the well and placed bags carrying bundles of currency notes in front of the speaker. The MPs waved the wads of currency alleging it was the money offered to them by a Samajwadi Party leader to either vote for the confidence motion or abstain. The 3 MPs, who have levelled the allegations are Ashok Argal from Morena and Faggan Singh Kulaste from Mandla, Madhya Pradesh and Mahavir Bhagora from Salumber, Rajasthan. The speaker called an all party meet to discuss these allegations. But a final decision has not been taken so far.

On a tumultuous day for Indian politics, speeches good and bad, drama over cash bribes for votes, the UPA Government won the vote of confidence in Parliament. It has got 253 votes in favour, 232 against it and abstentions were two. Total of 487 members participated in the trust vote.

There was considerable confusion in Parliament after a day of high drama. Post-results of electronic voting showed Prime Minister Manmohan Singh's Government win the crucial confidence vote in the Lok Sabha.

However, apparently many members had either not voted properly or had waited to do manual voting that Speaker Somnath Chatterjee said would follow.

It was later announced that 54 votes were still to be counted, including four members who voted in the inner lobby. They included former prime minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee who could not be present in the chamber because of illness.

Chatterjee said the final results were yet to be declared, but MPs began crowding around a smiling Prime Minister and congress chief Sonia Gandhi to congratulate them.

Bulls and bears make way for the horses. More than market trading it would be horse trading or the result of it that markets all over will keenly watch. All eyes will be on New Delhi over the next two days (and perhaps beyond that), as the Government desperately tries to garner the requisite numbers to survive the "Trust Vote" in the Lok Sabha on Tuesday. The last few days have revealed the true colours of India's ever deteriorating politics. MPs and parties are switching sides like chameleons change their colour. The Lok Sabha will be convened today for a two-day special session. The vote is too close to call as the Left, BSP and UNPA drum up support against the N-deal and the Congress-led coalition.

Over the weekend, the JMM decided to vote for the UPA, while RLD and JD(S) chose to partner the BSP. Politicians are in great demand, with parties resorting to aggressive poaching. Like cricket or any sport, anything is possible in Indian politics. History shows that even a single vote (or lack of it) has been able to change the fortunes of the incumbent regime. We can't predict whether history will repeat again tomorrow. The event risk is just too big, and the game is wide open.

Asian markets have rallied this morning.

Asian markets have rallied this morning. The Hang Seng in Hang Seng is up 736 points or 3.4% at 22,610 while the Kospi in Seoul gained 3.3% at 1560. The Straits Times in Singapore, the Taiex in Taiwan and the Shanghai Composite in China were up 2.3%, 3.3%, and 1.5%, respectively. Japanese markets are closed for a holiday.

Pri Market Commentary ...

Toady,the strong global cues may lead to higher opening. Most global markets rallied last week as oil prices tumbled. Crude remains just above $130 per barrel. Asian markets are up sharply. Even the FIIs have been net buyers over the last couple of sessions. But, the heightened anxiety and uncertainty over the confidence motion, we expect the market to be volatile and rangebound.
What will happen to the N-deal, if the UPA falls the trust vote? Will we have early polls as well? Who will come to power at the Centre post elections? There are too many questions over the fate of the Government (and the N-deal).

We expect the market to cool off after an initial spurt. Technically, the Nifty breached the 20-DMA last week. This was largely due to massive short-covering (mostly by FIIs). The 1,000-point rebound last week was more of a bear market rally. It remains to be seen if the bulls can continue to make headway. The next level to keep an eye on is 4216 and 4500 after that. Fundamentally, things continue to be precarious (both locally and globally).
