Pre Market Commentary ..

Today, we expect a cautious start, as global cues are mixed. Keep an eye on Reliance Industries as the index bellwether’s results are a little disappointing. Among the results to be declared today, Maruti may come out with better set of numbers.One thing is sure that the climb from here will not be all that smooth. There will be bumps at regular intervals. Still, one may gradually start picking up quality stocks for long-term prosperity.

Bulls may argue that action makes more fortune than caution. After a brief correction earlier this week, the bulls seem to be in command once again on the bourses. Nothing has changed though as the earnings and economic reports (both local as well as global) remain mixed. And, although several market pundits predict that the worst is over, there could be some more pain going ahead. A lot more needs to be done to ensure a smooth and quick recovery for the sluggish global economy.


The IMF has warned that the global economic gloom may last longer than anticipated. But, a consensus on a coordinated effort to revive global growth continues to elude us. G7 leaders are busy debating as to who’s the real culprit behind this mess. Back home, the economy will continue to suffer from a policy vacuum as it will be a while before the next Government is formed. In addition, the uncertainty over the outcome of the polls may play spoilsport.

Pre Market Commentary ..

The market is expected to open flat and eye the major results for some direction. A truncated F&O week could pressure on the shorts.


The big ticket results include Reliance Industries where India Infoline expects an 8.4% yoy fall in revenues and 6.9% yoy drop in net profit. A positive surprise on this front will give some boost to the counter. But the main trigger for the bulls would be a short squeeze.


Everybody seems to be right and wrong at some point in the trading day. Given the choppiness and exhaustion of bulls, the indices have been swinging with momentum clearly missing.


Remain nimble and hold on to your positions to make an exit in the coming week as shorts get squeezed.

Pre Market Commentary ...

Today,the rate cut did little to help the bull’s cause on Tuesday. But global cues today point to a better start at least. Financial shares helped the US indices recoup their losses after Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner said the vast majority of the nation’s banks have enough capital lessening fears about banks having to raise more capital.


What the Indian banks do following the RBI rate cuts will be watched. A few banks have already announced a cut. The RBI governor also indicated that banks have been exaggerating worries about fear of losing deposits.


Asian markets are higher too with Japan’s export slump slowing in March, probably indicating that signs of recession may be easing. Oil climbed from a five-week low with crude futures rising 1.4%, following stocks higher.


Avoid fresh positions for the time being and use the gains to exit or shuffle portfolio.

The Nikkei index in Japan was down 299 points or 3.3% at 8,625.6, the Hang Seng index in Hong Kong fell 551 points or 3.5% at 15,210, however, the Shanghai SE Composite was flat at 2,551.

Pre Market Commentary ...

Today, the market is likely to open weak. The global cues are adding to the discomfort. US markets tumbled snapping a six-week long rally on concerns about the financial sector earnings.


The RBI may well choose not to respond to the pleas of the bulls. Expectations are that a status quo could be maintained like in many earlier policies and action would be initiated at an ‘appropriate time’ later. Given that the lending activity has not picked up as much as RBI would like to see despite the liquidity easing, the central bank may choose to ask banks to lend more to specific sectors.


The markets have expectedly turned choppy. Given the gains in recent weeks, a cool-off was always on the cards. How the RBI plays its cards today will determine the further course of action (just for the day).


All eyes would be on the Reserve Bank of India as the monetary policy would to be unveiled on Tuesday. A rate cut may well boost some sentiment for the markets in the short term. The RBI, however, is likely to maintain a status quo considering that despite ample liquidity, credit offtake has remained lesser than desired.

Power Grid To Invest Rs.20K Cr. During 11th Five-Year Plan Period

Central transmission utility PowerGrid Corporation of India Ltd. said it would invest up to Rs.20,000 crore during the XI Five-Year Plan period, out of the total investment plan of Rs.55,000 crore, to provide transmission system for various projects, including four UMPPs of 4,000MW each as well as others to be commissioned, in the 12th plan period, media reports said.

S. Majumdar, Director (Projects), reportedly said the corporation plans to invest Rs.8,000 crore to Rs.9,000 crore in the Eleventh Plan and the rest will be spilled over to the 12th Plan (2012-17).

The investment would be funded through a mix of internal accruals and borrowings from multi-lateral agencies to realize its ambitious plans, the release said.
