Pre Market Commentary ..
Today, the market is set to open in the red. Don’t expect too much of a bounce back soon as the Dubai debt issue could have a cascading impact as more clarity sets in. Stay light and reduce your exposure for the time being. Bargain hunting could wait till next week. It was the expiry of bullishness on every Street. That sinking feeling came yet again as debt problems in Dubai took its toll on financial markets world over. Safe-haven bonds rose and the rupee fell against the dollar.
US markets were closed for Thanksgiving and today is Black Friday, the day after Thanksgiving in the US. The day marks the beginning of the traditional Christmas shopping season. US investors would probably find discount sales during the truncated session. The debate of whether we are out of the woods or not will gain momentum again. In what appears to be the biggest sovereign default since Argentina in 2001, Dubai has sought debt standstill agreement at its Dubai World holding company or in other words, a six-month reprieve on debt payments.

A year has passed by after the tragedy in Mumbai. The city and the market have moved on in what is often summed up as the indomitable spirit. It’s Thanksgiving on every street for the bulls. November series has seen some good long positions. The Nifty December series is showing a long build-up after it closed at 12 points premium to the spot.
Stock exchanges may put their plans to extend trading hours on the back-burner following lack of consensus. The only consensus for now seems to be that indices will hit a new year-high in December series. Index heavyweights like Reliance will hog the limelight for the day. The rising market is also bringing in illiquid stocks back into trade, some after a decade. Avoid these counters.

What this also means is there is no danger to the dollar carry trade. But, it would be interesting to see how the markets behave once the dollar bottoms out. That unwinding, whenever it unfolds will have a bearing on global equities. Whether the economic recovery picks up further momentum or fizzles out will also be keenly followed.

Pre Market Commentary ...
Today, keep your goals reasonable and don’t forget to take some gains home. Overall, the sentiment is positive. So, ride the momentum but some selloff is not ruled out as the market is near a year’s high. We expect a cautious start due to mixed Asian cues. As usual, trading will be volatile ahead of F&O expiry.
The Nifty could take a shot at 5200 though it may not surpass it. It may find support near 5075-5080 in case the market dips. The undertone will continue to hinge on global developments. A slew of economic reports are due in the US, which will have a truncated week due to the traditional start to the holiday season. Local event to watch out for is the release of Q2 GDP data.
Risk appetite seems to be up again after showing signs of a fatigue last week. Gold has hit a new record. Other risky assets have also advanced at the cost of the dollar. The underlying feeling is that central banks are unlikely to reverse the extraordinary stimulus anytime soon. This means the dollar will remain under pressure.

Market Commentary ..
Today, bulls will hope for a bounce back at regular intervals during the interim rough patch being seen on the bourses. At the same time bears will continue to scout for money making opportunities. One should remain on guard as volatility could escalate ahead of Thursday’s F&O expiry. Don’t get hurt while the bull-bear tussle is on.
The Nifty is likely to oscillate between 5100 and 4900 depending on the news flow and fund flows. With the key indices up smartly from March lows, the upside may be limited from here on. There are some concerns on the pace of the rally amid a somewhat murky outlook but no need to panic as such. Globally, risk appetite may start easing a bit as we approach the year end. Demand for defensive plays may shoot up. Dollar’s movement will continue to determine the near-term fate of global equities. Economic data will of course continue to have a bearing on sentiment. The overseas Christmas holiday season will also be keenly followed. For India, the big event will be Q2 GDP data.
