Pri Market Commentary ,,,

Today, we expect the Indian market to open on a positive note. Performance of the IT stocks, to a large extent, is expected to depend on the quarterly earnings of Infosys. We estimate a decline of 1.8% in PAT and 6.5% qoq growth in revenues. We also expect Infy to upgrade its FY09 EPS guidance by 4.5-6% to Rs98. If the above expectations are met, it could provide a positive surprise to the street. An inflation figure of below 12% will not impact market in our view. However, a lot will depend on IIP numbers and Europe stock performance.

Pri Market Commentary ...

Today, we expect a positive gap-up opening. Strong cues coming in from global markets are likely to help keep the Indian indices afloat. Crude cooling to some extent will add further comfort. However, any rally is likely to be temporary in nature. Remain cautious and use the gains to re-balance your portfolio.

The political developments being on expected lines saw the Indian market paring its losses though it ended in the red. The Left parties decision to exit from the Congress-led UPA government has more or less put some uncertainty to an end. Power and capital goods stocks were among the major gainers on Dalal Street as sentiment improved on counters which could benefit from the long pending Indo-US nuclear deal.

Pri Market Commentary ...

Today, we expect the key Indian indices to fall at the opening bell. Overall, we see them staying choppy and rangebound ahead of the political developments immediately and quarterly results. The IT sector may hog the limelight as Infosys will declare its results on Friday and others will follow suit next week. The current weakness in the rupee may have some positive spin on IT shares. This morning, the Indian currency is trading at 43.32 versus the dollar against yesterday's close of 43.29.

This morning, cues from global markets are discouraging. US shares gave up most of their gains to end slightly lower. Asian markets are down 1-2.5% this morning, except for China. The bulls may take some heart from the fact that crude oil prices have cooled off marginally and key European indices gained almost 2% yesterday.

Pri Market Commentary ...

Today,we expect a cautious opening as Asian markets are mixed. The Hang Seng and Shanghai have posted strong gains. Other regional markets are either flat or marginally in the red. In the US on Thursday, the Dow Jones ended up while the Nasdaq and S&P 500 were almost unchanged. Wall Street was closed on Friday due to the Fourth of July holiday. European markets ended lower on Friday.

The gains in the Indian market on Wednesday and again on Friday suggest that the bulls still have some fight left in them.For a change, the action would be more on the political front for the earlier part of this week. The SP has reportedly started demanding that private oil companies like RIL, Essar and Cairn pay windfall profit tax. Most market participants may view this as a proxy war between the Ambani brothers as Anil Ambani is ‘close’ friends with the SP leadership.
