Lehman Bros files for Chapter 11 Bankruptcy

Nifty breaks below 4000 levels

Following are the largest losses to date, based on reports from the companies:

- Citigroup: $55.1 billion
- Merrill Lynch: $52.2
- UBS: $44.2 billion
- HSBC: $27.4 billion
- Wachovia: $22.7 billion
- Bank of America: $21.2 billion
- Washington Mutual: $14.8 billion
- IKB Deutsche Industriebank: $14.5 billion
- Morgan Stanley: $14.4 billion
- JPMorgan Chase: $14.3 billion
- Lehman Brothers: $13.8 billion
- Royal Bank of Scotland: $13.8 billion
- Deutsche Bank AG: $10.2 billion
- Credit Suisse: $10.1 billion
- Wells Fargo: $10.0 billion
- Credit Agricole: $8.6 billion


Some $260 billion in losses have been absorbed by US firms, with $227 billion by European companies and $24 billion by Asian banks
