Asian markets are trading mostly higher this morning

Asian markets are trading mostly higher this morning. The Nikkei in Tokyo was up 2.1% at 13,218 while the Hang Seng in Hong Kong gained 0.8% to 24,372. The Kospi in Seoul was flat at 1765 while the Straits Times in Singapore advanced 0.8% to 3089. The Shanghai Composite in China rose 1% to 3507 and the Taiex in Taiwan gained 0.5% at 8871.

Today's announcement of the fourth update of the foreign trade policy and the RBI's upcoming annual policy meeting will also be used to bring inflation down from a three-year peak.

Today, we expect markets to open on a cautious note with mix signals coming in from Asian markets. Any fall could well see some selective buying. However, the approach now needs to be stock-specific. Most global markets but for China clocked gains but Indian indices remained in a sorry state last week. With inflation hitting a three-year high of 7%, bears tightened their grip.
