Market Commentary ..

As if the recent spike in fuel prices was not enough, reports now suggest that fuel prices will rise by a few paise more. The Oil Ministry has increased the margins for the pump owners. The fuel bill could shoot up further if the much-anticipated diesel and LPG price hike materialises. Reports also suggest a possible duty rejig to cushion the blow to the consumers. The big question is when will the EGoM on fuel prices meet?

There appears less gain and more pain in the Street. The start today will be sluggish. At best we can see a minor recovery but the near-term prospects remain uncertain. Watch out for earnings from L&T, Jet Airways, Ashok Leyland and Tata Power.

Asian markets are mostly positive. US stocks snapped a three-day decline with technology pacing the rally. European stocks too closed higher. Japan’s economy shrank in Q1, but at a much faster pace than forecast, as the March natural disasters played havoc. Fed policymakers have indicated they are not in a hurry to withdraw stimulus. US crude is back at $100 a barrel. Gold and silver are up. The dollar has softened.

NIFTY FO CLOSED @ 5447 AS ON 17.05.2011

NIFTY FO has resistance @ 5473 to 5488 above which other resistance levels are @ 5493 to 5507. In down side support levels are @ 5417 to 5403 levels; below which other support levels are @ 5397 to 5381 levels in MAY - 2011. I am positive for next week above 5488 level but be with the trend. Let the market decide further moves. As we are saying from many days Buying is suggested in falls only... and its still a better strategy in the given scenario. One can go for buy at those levels also, but in absence of that its time to BOOK PROFIT now. This is a pessimistic outlook but that's the way we tend to be, in this market.

TCS (BUY between Rs1115-1120, Target Rs1185)

TCS Ltd on the daily chart has signaled breakout from an ‘ Ending diagonal’ after prices oscillated in narrow band of Rs1108-1135 and volume trend decelerating for almost 12 trading session. The daily prices have been forming higher top and higher bottom since last four trading session irrespective of volatility in broader markets. This exhibits enormous strength in the counter. The amplitude of ‘Ending diagonal’ projects immediate target of Rs1200 in the near term along with confirmation of a positive crossover in RSI. .The daily RSI is also so far forming a ‘double bottom’ which also risk rewards more favorable. We advise buying stock in the range of Rs1115-1120 with stop loss of Rs1088 for Target of Rs1185. (Duration 7 days).

Marke Commentary ..

The market has been reeling under a series of bad news. It started with the dismal results and dramatic exits at Infosys. The RBI aggravated the pain with a 50 bps rate hike. Earnings from RIL and Bharti also failed to impress.

On Tuesday, shocking Q4 results from SBI sent the market into a tailspin. Bad news on ONGC and RIL exacerbated the fall. The knock on the chin could have been harder but for the strength in ITC, HUL and TCS.

Meanwhile, Coal India surpassed ONGC as the top listed PSU. It is now behind only RIL in terms of market cap.

Today’s start will be better but don’t bet on a substantial turnaround. All eyes are now on Bajaj Auto results today. L&T will announce its report card on Thursday. ITC will come out with its numbers on Friday.

Inflation remains a big headache as well. Things could get worse as a diesel price hike is also on the cards. The Nifty has violated the trading band of 5460-5530. The near-term outlook is negative with immediate support seen at 5380.
